Warning signs that betting is becoming a problem

Money gives the earliest signal: you bet with funds meant for rent, fees, EMIs or the family, or you borrow to keep going. The second sign is chasing, when the next deposit exists to win back the last loss. If either is true, the problem has started, whatever the balance shows today.

Two or more yes answers are reason enough to pause and talk to someone. Tele-MANAS, listed further down this page, is a sensible first call.

Limits you can set without any operator

Set your own limits first, because many offshore sites offer few tools. Pick a monthly rupee figure whose loss would not touch rent or groceries, for instance ₹1,000, and treat it as spent once it leaves your account.

• Park betting money in a dedicated bank account, with no overdraft or credit line attached
• Remove saved payment details from any betting site
• Use Digital Wellbeing on Android or Screen Time on iPhone to cap browser and app time
• Never bet to repay a debt, or after drinking
• Log each deposit and each withdrawal in one notebook; it is the record you will want if a payout is ever disputed

Bonuses stretch limits in a quiet way. Wagering of x20 on a ₹1,000 bonus works out to ₹20,000 of bets before any withdrawal, and that pressure is exactly what a fixed budget is meant to resist.

What 4rabet's responsible gaming policy offers, and its gaps

The policy published by 4rabet lists four cooling-off lengths (24 hours, 7 days, 1 month, 3 months) plus a self-exclusion option whose minimum term is 1 year; once set, it stays until that term runs out. If the account itself offers no such setting, the document points players to [email protected].

Deposit limits do not appear anywhere in the rules. In the account we found tabs for Profile, Payments History, Bets History and Support only; none of them dealt with safer play. For outside help the policy offers a Gamblers Anonymous link; an Indian number is absent.

A 4rabet player therefore has to bring their own limits. That gap is part of why we did not score 4rabet higher; our licence check of 4rabet sets out the rest.

Self-exclusion: how to make it actually hold

Self-exclusion works only when it covers every site you use. Request it from each operator separately, keep the confirmation email or a screenshot of the chat, and delete bookmarks and saved logins on every device.

Then close the side doors. Unsubscribe from promotional SMS and email, leave Telegram and WhatsApp groups that post tips or sell "IDs", and stop any standing payment instructions linked to betting. If a site lets you open a fresh account during an exclusion, stop using it and write to its support with the date of your original request.

Let one trusted person know about the exclusion. One you keep secret is easier to undo.

Where to call in India: 14416 for support, 1930 for fraud

For gambling worries, call Tele-MANAS, the free government mental health line, at any hour on 14416 (or 1-800-891-4416). Callers raise gambling, debt stress and anxiety there, and relatives worried about someone can ring too.

If betting has led to fraud, for example an "agent" holding your money or someone who obtained your UPI PIN, report it the same day through 1930 or the portal cybercrime.gov.in. The earlier the report, the better the chance that the bank can hold the money before it moves again.

When a dispute starts: who you are dealing with, and what helps

A dispute over a withdrawal, a closed account or a confiscated bonus is settled with the operator, under its own T&C, usually in English and by email. With an offshore site there is no local office to visit, so the outcome depends on what you can show.

Keep the evidence ready before you need it: UPI transaction IDs for deposits, screenshots of each withdrawal request, the chat transcript and a copy of the bonus terms you accepted. At 4rabet the T&C name [email protected], and clause 9.7 lets the operator void winnings for what it calls "bonus abuse", so read that clause before you take any bonus.
